But rest assured, fall gardens are not limited to having broccoli, cauliflower or cabbage. There are far more edible foods to grow in a fall garden. Most landscaping contractors in Dubai state that a majority of things that you plant during the spring season can be grown in your fall garden as well. Remember, these are known as cool season plants as they can tolerate a bit of a frost. Some of the best edible foods to grow in a fall garden are:
Ideal for fall gardens, Brussels sprouts taste best when they are given ample time to mature in a cool weather. These need to be planted in-mid summers and they take around 3 months for the sprouts to appear. It takes 90 days for these to reach maturity.
The seeds for radishes need to be sown around 4 weeks prior to the first frost. Make sure that you sow the seeds evenly or you would have to thin them out. The soil needs to be well-drained and your radishes would be mature within 50 days.
The moist and cool weather in the fall season is perfect to grow spinach in your fall garden. It needs to have very fertile soil so that its growth is enhanced and you get really tender leaves. Spinach takes around 45 days to reach maturity and you should sow its seeds around five weeks prior to the first frost.
For those who do not know, a rutabaga is basically a cross between a turnip and a cabbage. Even though these are best for early spring gardens, their flavor enhances afull100% when these are grown in fall. Rutabagas take 90 days to reach maturity.
